Written Instructions — Loop to Loop

  1. Two pre-formed loops You need a loop in the end of each line — a perfection loop, surgeon's loop, or welded loop.
  2. Pass Loop B through Loop A Take Loop B and pass it completely through Loop A.
  3. Pass line end through Loop B Pass the entire length of the Line B leader through Loop A. The full leader goes through.
  4. Pull to interlock Pull both main lines in opposite directions to form the interlocking chain link.
  5. Snug firmly Pull firmly until both loops are snug against each other.

Tips for Tying a Loop to Loop

  • Both loops must be the same size for a neat, balanced connection — mismatched sizes create a lopsided, weak joint.
  • The connection should look like two interlocking chain links lying flat — if it looks like a girth hitch, the loops are not interlocked correctly.
  • To disconnect: push Loop B back through Loop A — the whole leader comes through easily.
  • Welded loops on fly lines are factory-installed and very strong — treat them gently and don't bend them sharply.
